Gates
Gates are the 64 I Ching hexagram positions on the Human Design wheel. Each gate (1–64) is a numbered theme activated when a planet’s longitude falls in that gate’s slice.
Personality vs design
Activations appear on:
- Personality (black) — conscious side at birth
- Design (red) — unconscious side from the design calculation

Gates and channels
A channels forms when both gates at either end are active (across personality and design). One gate alone is a hanging gate — felt strongly when others bring the partner gate.
64 gates — orientation
Gates are grouped around the nine centers (each gate “belongs” to a center). You do not need all 64 memorized. Start with type, authority, centers, then explore activations in your chart.
