Sidereal zodiac

Sidereal zodiac

Western tropical astrology anchors 0° Aries to the March equinox (seasons). Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac: twelve rashis tied to fixed star backgrounds, so longitudes show where grahas sit against constellations today.

Earth's precession separates tropical and sidereal longitudes by roughly 23–24° (see ayanamsa). The same calendar date often places the Sun one sign earlier in Jyotish than in tropical charts—both frames are coherent for their traditions.

Read sign quality via rashis and lunar detail via nakshatras. Divisional charts (vargas-overview) reuse the same sign vocabulary at finer scales.
