Jyotish overview
Jyotish (Vedic astrology) is the Indian science of light (jyoti)—reading birth charts (kundali) from the actual sky using a sidereal-zodiac and ayanamsa. Classical frameworks such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra organize planets (grahas), signs (rashis), houses (bhavas), timing (dashas-intro), and specialized maps (vargas-overview).
Charts describe tendencies and timing, not fixed fate. Practitioners weigh:
- Lagna (lagna) — life direction and body
- Moon (moon-in-chart, nakshatras) — mind and dasha seed
- Sun — vitality and authority
- House lords — how topics link across bhavas
