Opposition

An opposition is a 180° aspect—planets across the zodiac from each other, often in complementary signs. It pictures polarity, projection, and the need for balance between two needs.

Oppositions can manifest as awareness through relationship: qualities experienced strongly in others until owned internally. They differ from the merging conjunction and the internal friction of a square.
