Orbs
An orb is the allowable deviation from an exact aspect angle. If two planets are 88° apart, a square (90°) may still count within a 2° orb.
Orbs are convention, not astronomy. Typical Western natal ranges (tighten for minors — minor-aspects):
| Aspect | Common orb (personal planets) |
|---|---|
| conjunction | up to 8° (wider for Sun/Moon) |
| opposition | up to 7° |
| square / trine | up to 6° |
| sextile | up to 4° |
| Quincunx | up to 2°–3° |
Use consistent orbs within a reading so emphasis does not shift arbitrarily. Software may expose orb presets on the same longitudes as planet-positions.
